For, to speak out once for all, man only plays when in the full meaning of the word he is a man, and he is only completely a man when he plays." Friedrich Schiller (Letters on the Aesthetical Education of Man, Letter XIV)

By moving a series of projection surfaces through space, a real, existing room is constantly restructured into new spaces for action and play. In these spaces, three performers encounter their duplicates and begin to play. The rules of play have been collectively determined. Play the Play – Hide and Seek is a sketch of how to combine real and virtual places of encounter. The physical being and its virtual counterpart create two different layers of reality. With the support of computerized video technology, it is possible to create a dialog with oneself and with others in the room: the extent to which this explores fragments or self-definition is up to the performers. How the individual actions in space interact with these layers of reality, and how large or small the span between person and projection may become, will appear to the public as the performance develops.

(Huizinga 1938/1991, S. 37):
